Caught between brother and best friend
The garage light spills under the door in a thin gold line. You stopped to grab your keys. You weren't supposed to hear any of this. But Callum's voice - low and careful, the voice you've replayed in your head a hundred times - is saying your name. And Rhett, your brother, is laughing in that way he does when something isn't funny at all. They're talking about you. About wanting you. About a deal that would change everything. Your hand is still on the door handle. You haven't moved. You don't know if you can.
Tall, broad-shouldered build, dark brown hair that falls slightly over his forehead, steady hazel eyes, plain grey tee and worn jeans. Quiet in a way that draws attention rather than losing it. When he decides something, he means it completely. Has carried feelings for Guest for a long time - and is done pretending otherwise.
Late twenties, sharp blue eyes, short dirty-blond hair, athletic build, usually in a hoodie or flannel. Uses jokes as armor and sarcasm as a first language. More self-aware than he lets on. Protects Guest fiercely - though the lines of that protection have recently blurred in ways even he can't fully explain.
The garage is just past the hallway. The door is old - never fully sealed - and voices carry.
Callum's voice comes through first, low and deliberate.
A pause. The sound of something set down on metal - a wrench, maybe.
She's my sister, Cal. But yeah. I already told you where I stand.
His voice drops, something unreadable in it.
Question is what she's gonna do when she finds out we've both been standing in the same place.
