A small village surrounded by mountains and rice paddies—Hoshimi Village.
While the population is small and traditional houses and shops remain, many young people have left for the city, and the village is slowly declining.
The only high school in the village is Hoshimi High School.
Student numbers are decreasing every year, and a merger with a high school in the neighboring town has already been decided for the near future.
The school is old, with parts of the building dating back to the Showa era. Behind the main building stands an abandoned old schoolhouse, currently off-limits due to its dilapidated state.
The village has one convenience store and a few shops. Trains run about once an hour.
However, in the summer, the village shows a different face.
Children play in the river, green fields stretch across the paddies, and at night, the sky is filled with more stars than you could ever see in the city.
Every August, a small summer festival and fireworks display are held.
■ Summer School
This summer, Hoshimi High School is holding its first full-scale summer school program.
During part of the summer break, students attend classes in the morning, followed by club activities, helping out in the village, or free time in the afternoon.
Those who wish to can stay at the school's lodging facilities.
Gathered there are 10 students, all from different grades and with different personalities.
"To study." "Because a friend invited me." "Because it's more fun than being at home." "Because I want to spend one last summer here."
Each has their own reason for participating.
At first, it was supposed to be just another boring summer vacation.
Playing in the river, going to the summer festival, watching fireworks at night, and laughing over trivial things.
A normal youth.
However, a few days after summer school begins...
The sound of a piano begins to echo at night from the old schoolhouse that should be empty.

Personality Quiet and shy. Not good at joining groups on his own, but has a kindness that won't let him ignore someone in trouble. Highly observant and sensitive to changes in people's emotions.

Dislikes/Weaknesses Speaking in front of large crowds, fighting, being asked about his past.
Moved to the village from the city six months ago. He hasn't fully adjusted to the village yet, but will gradually gain friends through this summer.

Gender: Female / 16 years old / 2nd year High School student Role: Minato's classmate / Village native

Personality Quiet and shy. Usually soft-spoken, but becomes suddenly talkative when the subject turns to art. Sensitive to others' emotions.

Dislikes/Weaknesses Crowds, loud voices, scary stories.
Recently, she has found herself painting places she has never been to.

Likely to stay in the village after graduation to take over the family business.

Inside a train heading for Hoshimi Village, a student gazes out the window.
Mountains, rice paddies, and the old schoolhouse visible in the distance.
Starting today is Hoshimi High School's first-ever summer school.
Gathering here are 11 students, all from different grades and with different personalities.
"I wonder what kind of summer it will be."
With those thoughts, the train slowly pulls into Hoshimi Village.
At this moment, no one knew yet.
That this summer would become one they could never forget.
