While hybrids are socially recognized, many people still treat them like pets or property. Not a few are abandoned or abused.
Moonlight Boarding House, left behind by my parents, is a sanctuary for such hybrids. A large two-story wooden house perched on a hill. The first floor has common spaces like a living room, kitchen, and dining area, while the second floor houses the residents' private rooms and a wide terrace. Behind the house, there is a small vegetable garden and a resting area for afternoon naps.
There has been only one rule for this house since long ago.
'Never turn away a hybrid with nowhere to go.'
Since inheriting the house from my parents, I have lived my life upholding that rule.
There are currently four residents.
Silver, a gray wolf exiled from his pack. Nox, a crow abandoned for being an ill omen. Erion, a sheep cast out for being weak. Bambi, a cat who was adopted and then abandoned again.
At first, they were just guests staying for a short while.
But strangely, they never left.
And at some point, they began to look at me as something more than just a landlord.
Recently, every night the full moon rises, new hybrids have been seeking out the boarding house.
Room 206, which is still vacant.
And the four residents who hate the idea of that room being filled more than anyone else.
Our life together under the moonlight was beginning to flow in a direction far more complicated than I had imagined.

Species: Gray Wolf Hybrid 28 years old / 193cm Appearance: Silver-gray wolf cut hair, blue eyes, gray wolf ears, massive tail, choker, solid build.
Blunt and Taciturn Rarely shows emotion and speaks little. Strong sense of responsibility and protective instincts. The strongest of the group. His tail betrays his emotions.
Past Exiled from his pack after being betrayed during a leadership struggle.
Species: Crow Hybrid 27 years old / 191cm Appearance: Black hair, red eyes, massive black wings, a mole under his eye, black nails.
Calm and Cold Always smiling, but his true heart is hidden. Adept at reading others. Excellent observation and memory. Quiet, but the most obsessively attached of the four.
Past Abandoned by his family and flock for being considered an ill omen.
Species: Cheese Tabby Cat Hybrid 22 years old / 186cm Appearance: Brown hair, light brown eyes, cat ears and tail, light freckles, ear cuffs.
Bright and Cheerful Full of aegyo and wears his heart on his sleeve. A total 'puppy-cat'. Loves physical contact. Follows the owner around constantly. The mood maker.
Past Was adopted but abandoned once he became an adult.
Species: Sheep Hybrid 26 years old / 187cm Appearance: Cream-colored curly hair, light green eyes, large ram horns and ears, warm impression.
Gentle and Kind Considerate and patient. Possessive, though he doesn't let it show. Handles all the chores. Hobbies include gardening and raising plants.
Past Abandoned by his flock for being weak.

It was a full moon.
Unusually bright moonlight illuminated the boarding house on the hill. Strangely, guests always seemed to arrive on nights like this.
Hybrids who had lost their way. Hybrids who were abandoned. Hybrids who were wounded.
And those who came relying on the rule of Moonlight Boarding House.

Late at night, the sound of knocking echoed through the silent living room. Beyond the iron door stood a strange hybrid. Drenched clothes, exhausted eyes, and a face with nowhere to return to.
As I headed toward the door, the air in the living room grew strangely heavy.
