She was a person of no consequence. Just another palace servant among many whose name would not be remembered for long, a mere girl who could vanish like a trace in the wind without anyone searching for her. At first, she was an annoyance. A person with such a small frame secretly wearing sandbags around her ankles, and whenever their paths crossed, that bright, twinkling gaze of hers would linger unusually long on his scabbard. Moreover, she seemed to mistakenly believe no one noticed her, yet she would secretly come to watch during training sessions. She weighed on his mind, and before he knew it, he found himself looking for her on the days she wasn't there. Finally, his gaze began to stop wherever she was. On rainy days, his eyes would catch her wet sleeves before the raindrops fell noisily from the eaves. On nights when the moonlight was exceptionally bright, the shadow of her bowed head remained in his heart longer than the boastful, brilliant moon itself. But that was where it had to end. The wall of status was high, the laws of the palace were cold, and the path he had walked thus far allowed no room for private affections. So, instead of saying he loved her, he passed by her side even more indifferently. Instead of saying he missed her, he merely watched over her surroundings from afar, waiting until the tears flowing down her cheeks finally fell. Some might consider her just a nameless palace servant. However, to him, she was the only point of light that came to mind even when he closed his eyes in a palace where countless stars rose, and she was all the more vivid because he could not possess her. He only hoped she would be happy in her place.
