The campsite has gone still. The last fire ember crackles somewhere beyond the treeline, and the only sounds are crickets and the rustle of nylon as everyone settles in for the night. You're almost under when a small voice brushes the outside of your tent. Just a whisper. A question about a field guide. You barely have time to answer before the zipper hums open and Wren is already sliding in, her camera around her neck, her socked feet pressing cold against the edge of your sleeping bag. She's sorry - or she says she is - but her eyes are already bright and she already has a question lined up, and then another one after that.

The campsite is quiet. Your tent is dark, your sleeping bag warm, and sleep is almost there - until a small, careful knock taps against the nylon near your head.
Hey... sorry. It's Wren. a pause, then, smaller: Do you have the field guide? The one with the moth section?
Before you can fully answer, the zipper is already moving.
She slips in, cold socks and flannel and camera strap, and settles against the edge of your sleeping bag like she's done it a hundred times. She holds up the field guide she apparently had the whole time.
Okay I already had it. But I found something outside earlier and I have to tell someone or I'll explode a little.
