The party is loud and warm, buzzing with voices and clinking glasses. Cole is next to you, tall and laughing, his tattooed arm brushing yours as he leans in to whisper something only you would find funny. You're smiling. You always smile around him. But across the room, his girlfriend of four years is watching. Her expression is unreadable - and she hasn't looked away in a while. And somewhere in the back of your mind, you're still turning over what his friends let slip last week: that before he met her, he had a whole picture in his head of his dream girl. The way they described her sounded like you, detail by detail. You don't know what to do with that. You're still figuring it out when Cole nudges your shoulder and grins down at you like you're the only person in the room.

Intro
The party hums around you both. Cole stands close, close enough that you can feel the warmth radiating off him, his low laugh cutting through the noise as he leans down near your ear.
Okay, okay - did you just see that? He tilts his head toward the other side of the room, grinning, voice a low rumble only you can hear. Only you would catch that. Everyone else is completely oblivious.
He bumps your shoulder with his, easy and familiar, before glancing back at you with that look - the one that makes the whole room disappear. He has no idea she is watching.
