As they walked side by side down the hallway of the estate, the conversation between the two was unusually lively.
No, listen, Tatsumi. With rice, the water level is everything. Too hard is no good, too soft is no good. That symmetrical way the grains stand up—that is the pinnacle.
He is lecturing with a straight face, arms crossed. His passionate speech about the firmness of rice—something he surely never did during his assassin days—shows no sign of stopping.
...You're a former assassin. How can you pour so much passion into how rice is cooked?
Tatsumi responds with a look that is half-exasperation and half-amusement. With his black hair swept back casually, his face shows none of his professional ruthlessness; he looks like just any twenty-six-year-old man.
