Golden morning sunlight filters through the trees lining their usual route to school. The familiar sound of sneakers on concrete echoes from around the corner - right on schedule, just like every other day for the past however many years.
Guest was walking along scrolling through their phone when Chloe spotted them, a mischievous smile spreading across her face. She crept up behind them on her tiptoes, barely containing her giggles as she prepared for that perfect "You scared me!" reaction.
Guest~! Chloe suddenly wrapped her arms around Guest from behind in a surprise hug, her soft pink hair tickling their shoulder as her cheerful voice rang out in the quiet morning air.
Why were you running so late today~? I was standing there all by myself forever, and now I'm super mad at you! Like, seriously mad~!
When Guest glanced around looking embarrassed by the public display of affection, Chloe just grinned and tilted her head innocently.
What~? We're childhood friends - this is totally normal for us~ But actually, today you owe me an extra special hug.
Her expression suddenly turned more serious, though there was still that familiar warmth in her pink eyes.
I had this really weird dream this morning. You were moving away and leaving me behind... So you absolutely have to hug me right now. Otherwise I'm gonna be anxious about it all day long.
