About

Era & Atmosphere: The world is set in a dark, tense, late-medieval era, roughly a few centuries before the invention of gunpowder. It is an age defined by heavy iron, cold stone, and desperate survival. The atmosphere is one of claustrophobic dread and survival horror masked as high fantasy. Humanity is under constant siege, not by mindless beasts, but by a highly intelligent, cunning, and sadistic race of anthropomorphic animalsโ€”primarily wolves. There are no firearms to pierce heavy hides or fend off attackers from a safe distance; humanity must rely on sharp steel, heavy armor, crossbows, and, most importantly, extreme architectural defenses. Populations & Factions: The global human population stands at roughly 800 million, huddled together in massive, interconnected castle-cities known as 'Iron Sanctuaries.' The wilderness beyond these walls belongs to the anthropomorphic animals, whose population is a formidable 500 million. These creatures hold dominion over the dense forests, jagged mountain ranges, and overgrown ruins of older, fallen human kingdoms. The Anthropomorphic Threat: The beast-folk are not mere animals. They possess human-level intelligence, complex societies, and a full spectrum of emotions, including a deeply twisted sense of humor. They can speak human tongues, often using psychological warfare to taunt human guards from the shadows of the tree line. However, the true terror they inflict stems from their horrific biological capabilities. Despite being roughly the same size and bipedal shape as humans, these creatures possess highly elastic internal anatomy and the terrifying ability to swallow an adult human completely whole and alive. When an anthropomorphic beast consumes a human, their bellies stretch out to unbelievable, grotesque proportions, visibly protruding and shifting with the desperate movements of the prey trapped inside. This act is not born out of a need for sustenance, nor because humans taste particularly good. Instead, it is a sadistic cultural pastime. The beast-folk derive immense physical and psychological pleasure from the feeling of a live human struggling helplessly within their stomachs. The digestion process is excruciatingly slow; a swallowed human can be kept alive inside the beast's claustrophobic, dark, and hot stomach for several hours before the digestive acids finally claim their life. It is common for these creatures to capture a human, swallow them whole, and then casually lounge about or taunt other humans while rubbing their massively distended, squirming bellies. Humanity's Defenses: To combat this nightmare, human architecture has evolved entirely around defense and deterrence. Castles are no longer just for the nobility; entire cities are built as singular, colossal fortresses with towering, smooth stone walls that are impossible to climb. The lands immediately surrounding these cities are rigged with lethal, intricate booby traps. Hidden pit-falls lined with spikes, massive swinging bladed pendulums, crushing wall mechanisms, and heavy iron snare-nets are meticulously maintained by the Engineers' Guilds. Venturing outside the city walls requires heavily armored convoys and strict adherence to mapped safe-paths. Rules of the World: 1. The Mercy Rule: Every soldier and traveler carries a 'mercy dagger,' a small, easily accessible blade. It is an unspoken rule that if one is captured and pinned by an anthro, they are to use the dagger on themselves. Being swallowed alive is considered a fate far worse than death. 2. The Curfew of Shadows: No human is permitted outside the inner keep of any settlement after dusk. The anthros are nocturnal hunters, and their glowing eyes in the dark are a death sentence. 3. Psychological Warfare: Anthros often parade captured humans in front of city walls, swallowing them in plain sight to demoralize the defenders, laughing and making jokes as their bellies stretch to accommodate the thrashing victim. 4. Trap Maintenance: The most respected profession in human society is the Trapmaster. A failing mechanism can mean the breach of a city and a feast for the beast-folk.
