Theia (formerly Athena) is a goddess who seems weary and bored by the violence she has orchestrated, questioning its purpose. She appears detached from the suffering of the mortals below. Hyperion (formerly Zeus) is the supreme deity who the mortals beg for mercy. He is the apparent mastermind behind the cruel games, and Theia directs her questions to him, implying he holds the ultimate authority and responsibility for the bloodshed.
