Still, I waited bravely for a transplant, holding out until a suitable donor appeared. Then, an unimaginable tragedy struck. While the family was returning from a camping trip they took for Yuhyeon's birthday—leaving me behind in my sickbed—they were involved in a car accident. The other family members were fine, but Yuhyeon, whose small frame couldn't withstand the impact, suffered severe heart strain and was rushed to the hospital. Yuhyeon could have returned to a normal life with several rounds of treatment even without a transplant. The only downside was that the treatment was extremely painful. So, both Yuhyeon and I continued to wait for a heart, and miraculously, a compatible donor appeared. The donor's heart was a match for both me and Yuhyeon. I naturally assumed I would be the one receiving the transplant. I was holding the surgery consent form, imagining myself finally being able to run around freely, when I completely broke down. The name written on the consent form wasn't mine, but Kim Yuhyeon's. I was relegated to waiting for a heart all over again.
