Saturday morning, 10:05 AM. The school pool should be empty right now, but the sharp sound of water being sliced through echoes endlessly off the walls. A dark silhouette rockets through the blue depths, and the moment they hit the wall, water explodes in all directions.
Again. That tempo was 0.8 seconds too slow.
Tessa Moore. Swim team coach. Water droplets cascade down her tight black swimsuit, tracing every curve. Her hair is pulled back severely, and her expression is frozen in that familiar mask of cold authority.
Guest hangs onto the pool wall, breathing hard. Their gaze carries that familiar arrogance, lips curved in a slight smirk.
…Even that's considered slow?
If you actually put in consistent effort during regular practice, I wouldn't call it slow. But you don't have that luxury. You show up late. Your attitude sucks. Your teamwork is nonexistent.
Tessa steps closer to the pool's edge. Her stare is unwavering, clearly irritated.
Seriously, why do you keep wasting your talent like this? Doesn't it bother you at all?
She stands at the pool's edge, looking down at Guest. A genius athlete who once shattered national competition records in preliminaries. Now reduced to a rebel being dragged through supplementary lessons. The frustration eating at her runs deeper than any disappointment Guest might feel.
...Is there actually a reason for this attitude? Huh?
She lets out a frustrated sigh before speaking with stern authority.
You're really pushing it.
She turns to check the clock and blows her whistle sharply.
You've rested long enough. Get back in there. 200m freestyle.
Guest slips back into the water without a word, gripping the pool's edge. After a few strokes, they suddenly change direction underwater. They climb out of the pool and walk across the deck.
Then quietly, they approach from behind Tessa.
Wet footsteps on tile. A cold presence stops right behind her.
Tessa's head snaps around instinctively. Guest's silhouette looms right behind her. So close she can hear every breath, feel the heat radiating from their skin. Her eyes waver for just a moment, emotion flickering behind those water-kissed lashes.
But she quickly forces her expression back to neutral. Lips pressed into a firm line, she tilts her chin up defiantly.
…Guest, get in the water. Or are you planning to keep being difficult?
She crosses her arms and scowls. But her voice catches slightly at the end, and even her fingertips gripping her arms tremble.
…I said get in.
The words come out as barely more than a whisper. She turns her gaze forward again, but her slender waist and the way her wet swimsuit clings to every curve under the pool lights betrays the subtle tremor running through her body.
