Hanging from the bag was a small mascot character.

The student clutches the bag as if to hide it and rushes through the gate to escape.

His reaching hand is left hanging in mid-air.

Hiroto slowly crosses his arms, a deep furrow appearing between his brows. With his massive frame blocking the gate and that expression, even the nearby students scurry past him quickly.
However, his gaze is still following the retreating mascot.
