The Lorebook contains major spoilers regarding the truth of the incident, character secrets, and the masterminds behind the scenes. If you wish to play while tracking the truth yourself, it is recommended not to open the Lorebook before starting. The worldview and basic narrative can be understood just by reading the introduction.

You are free to modify your rank and abilities in the user profile to enjoy the game. While the canonical protagonist is an S-rank male, a female profile has been added for use.

The following content is a prequel reconstructing Guest's narrative in an intro format.

It includes content to help understand the background of the incident before the plot begins. If you do not wish to read it, please skip to the [Details of the Incident] section further down.

For a long time, I had a power.

I just didn't reveal it to the world, but I already knew that I wasn't ordinary.

There was only one person who knew that fact. My first love who I grew up with since childhood, Baek Da-hee.

Da-hee hoped that one day we would become Guardians together. But after realizing that I wanted an ordinary life instead of the battlefield, she never once forced her dream on me.

“I still think it would be nice if we became Guardians together...” “But I’d rather live an ordinary life with you, while you do what you want, Guest.”

And so we became adults.

Da-hee became the Guardian she wanted to be, and I prepared a small cafe.

When Da-hee finished her mission and walked through the door, I would hand her a drink as I always did. We got engaged after a long relationship and began talking about the house we would live in and our wedding.

To me, the future wasn't anything grand.

Sitting side by side in the cafe after closing to talk about the day, and waiting for Da-hee to return safely. Having those ordinary days continue.

November 2153

Looking back, it started around then.

Da-hee began looking behind her frequently, and her expression would harden at even a small notification.

After discovering the mana signature of a junior who was reported dead, Da-hee tracked those traces alone.

“...Why is someone who was reported dead here?”

A test subject that shouldn't exist in official records. An Abyssal core and a modified mana circuit. And a strange, top-secret document.

“M.E.S.S.I.A.H....” “The Messiah Project...?”

I didn't know back then what Da-hee witnessed that day.

She entrusted some evidence to Seo Ha-yoon and never said a word to me in the end. Did she not want to drag me into danger? Or did she believe she could handle it herself?

December 2153

And a short while later, Da-hee was ordered to join an A-rank Gate cooperative raid.

“I’ll be back.” “I’ll finish it quickly and come home this time, too.”

If I had held onto her a little tighter that day, would something have changed?

If I hadn't pretended not to notice her anxious look. If I had hugged her just one more time, a little longer, when she walked out the door.

I still don't know the answer to that day.

Worldview

• South Korea in a modern fantasy setting.
• About 130 years ago, Gates spawning Abyssal species and superhumans began to appear worldwide.
• A Gate closes approximately 3 hours after the Boss inside is defeated.
• Those who protect people from Abyssal species and superpowered criminals are called Guardians.
• Those who commit crimes using superpowers are called Breakers.
• Gates, Abyssal species, and superpowers are classified into ranks: S-A-B-C-D-E-F.
• Off-the-charts targets that cannot be normally measured are classified as EX-rank, and are rare enough to be counted on one hand worldwide.

Abyssguard

• A national institution where active Guardians in South Korea operate.
• They perform tasks such as Gate observation, life-saving, tactical control, and research, in addition to Abyssal subjugation and Breaker suppression.
• Composed of several departments including the Operations Bureau, Special Missions Bureau, Intelligence Analysis Bureau, Research & Medical Bureau, and Planning & Coordination Office.
• Guardians include not only combat ability users but also tactical controllers, researchers, and administrative personnel who protect the world.
• All characters listed below are currently or were at the time of the incident members of Abyssguard.

M.E.S.S.I.A.H. Project — Currently Identified Clues

• A top-secret plan discovered by Baek Da-hee while tracking the mana signature of a junior reported dead.
• The document recorded the name Mana Evolution & Symbiotic Synthesis Initiative for Augmented Humanity.
• It has been partially confirmed that Abyssal cores, modified mana circuits, and test subject identification numbers exist.
• There are circumstances suggesting that missing persons and people reported dead were used in experiments.
• The exact purpose of the plan, the operating entity, and the scope of involvement within Abyssguard have not been revealed.
• Most related records are deleted or corrupted.

Details of the Incident — Facts Known to Guest

• Guest possessed strong superpowers but hid them, preparing for an ordinary future with their first love, Baek Da-hee, whom they had been with since childhood.
• The two got engaged after a long relationship, and Guest ran a small cafe while waiting for Baek Da-hee to return from her missions.
• After the death notification, Guest discovered secret investigation records in Baek Da-hee's wedding planning notebook left at the cafe.
• Through the notebook, it was learned that Baek Da-hee discovered the 'Messiah Project' while tracking traces of a junior reported dead, and entrusted part of the evidence to Seo Ha-yoon.
• The last entry in the notebook stated that the 3rd Mobile Unit participated in an A-rank Gate cooperative raid by order of Abyssguard HQ.
• Official records state that Baek Da-hee died in a closing Gate after endangering her colleagues by disobeying orders.
• The body and personal effects were not returned, and Kwon Do-hyuk was announced as a hero who saved his colleagues and defeated the Boss.
• A corrupted audio recording that reached Guest contained Kwon Do-hyuk's name, threats, and attack sounds, but it was not recognized as direct evidence.
• Abyssguard refused to reinvestigate, calling it a corrupted unofficial record.
• In April 2154, Guest, enraged by Kwon Do-hyuk using even Baek Da-hee's name, attacks the national Guardian memorial ceremony.

Creator's Comment

Abyssguard is a group that protects the world from Abyssal species and Breakers, believing they uphold justice.

However, their justice in saving the world ignored the sacrifice of one person, and Guest, who did not belong to that group, chose an ordinary life with just one person instead of the world.

This story is about people with different definitions of justice, and at the same time, it is a story about what an avenger who loved that one person chooses when the justice for the many tramples upon the one.

In this plot, there are ten different justices, including the victim, and one avenger who points their blade at the world where those justices are entangled.

Clear Justice judges right and wrong but prioritizes the order in front of them, Silent Justice knows the truth but closes its mouth in the face of fear.

Powerless Justice knows they should do the right thing but cannot act, Ignorant Justice is certain of its own judgment without verifying the truth.

Blind Justice leaves the judgment of right and wrong to someone they worship, Staged Justice creates heroes and villains that are easy for people to believe in, rather than convictions.

Fallen Justice justifies current evil deeds with past achievements, Twisted Justice accepts cruel sacrifice as the price for the future of humanity, Corrupt Justice uses people as tools under the pretext of the nation and the greater good.

And the Purest Justice, was destroyed amidst the many choices made in the name of justice.

This is a high-difficulty plot where the hidden side of Abyssguard, which claims to protect justice, and individual beliefs collide. The difficulty is Extreme.
