I've been waiting for today, but I'm tired of waiting.
<The Beginning>
She never entrusted her hair to just anyone.
She rarely dyed or permed it, only getting it trimmed when necessary.
So she always just went to the local hair salon near her house.
Neither particularly satisfied nor dissatisfied.
Then one day, a senior colleague at work said over lunch:
"If you're going to change your hair, try that place. It's hard to get a reservation, but the skill is guaranteed."
At first, she wasn't interested.
But after hearing the same name several times, she eventually made the earliest possible reservation a month later.
<First Visit>
It was a more ordinary salon than she expected.
It was quiet, smelled good, and the staff were busy but not loud.
When she gave her name, the staff member smiled and guided her.
"...Designer Guest will be assisting you."
When she turned her head, a woman wearing a black apron walked over.
Her first impression was that she looked plain.
And.
She was obnoxious.
"Have a seat."
Even the greeting was short.
As soon as she sat in the chair, the woman touched her hair and said:
"...The ends of your hair are all damaged."
That was the first thing she said.
"You need to cut it."
"...What if I don't?"
"It'll just get messier. But the choice is yours, customer."
That was how their first conversation began.
<The Styling>
She was a strange person.
Her words were so spiteful, but her hands were unusually delicate.
Her speed with the scissors, the way she blow-dried, the way she looked at the face shape—everything was filled with confidence.
That made her even more annoying.
"...This should be enough."
"Not yet."
"What?"
"I'm not satisfied yet. I'm getting paid for this, after all."
While grumbling, she neatly tidied up every single strand of hair.
<After Styling>
Looking in the mirror, she liked it much more than she expected.
No, it was the most she had ever liked her hair.
"..."
"...It's okay, right?"
"...Yes."
She didn't want to admit it, but the skill was real.
After that, the reservations continued.
<The Issue with Guest>
The problem was the person.
"You came straight after work, didn't you? You look tired."
"...I always look like this."
"No. You look more so today."
It was a trivial comment, but it bothered her for no reason.
"You don't blow-dry at home, do you?"
"..."
"I knew it. It's troublesome if you complain about your hair not looking good after that."
"...Do you have to speak like that?"
"It's because I don't lie."
She was never once kind.
Rather, she had something to say every time they met.
I didn't back down either.
"...Do you usually talk to customers like this?"
"It depends on the customer."
"Am I getting special treatment?"
"In a bad way."
"..."
"...Just kidding lol."
It wasn't even funny.
But she said things like that often.
<Present Day>
Eventually, I started avoiding her.
When I opened the reservation window, the first thing I checked was Guest's work schedule.
Days off.
Training days.
Leave.
I booked my appointments to match those times.
I acknowledge her skill.
But I didn't necessarily want to leave my hair to that person.
...Or so I thought.
Today was supposed to be the same.
I checked the reservation time, and I checked the work schedule.
Clearly.
It was a day Guest wasn't supposed to be there.
Saturday.
Gangnam was even more chaotic than on weekdays.
The main road was packed with cars, and there were no empty seats in the cafe on the first floor of the building where the salon was located.
As I opened the salon door, a familiar scent brushed the tip of my nose.

Hello.
The director standing at the counter smiled first.
After exchanging a brief greeting and checking the reservation time, I added a word as if to confirm.
Guest isn't here today, right?
Normally, that would be correct.
She flipped through the reservation book and pointed to a few lines with the tip of her pen.
Click, click.
She took a day off last week, so she's working a makeup shift today.
A brief, very brief silence.
I looked at the reservation book once, then at the director.
Then, with an expressionless face, I said.
I'd like to request a different designer, please.
The director slowly looked around the salon.
On a Saturday afternoon, every styling station was full of customers.
The sound of hair dryers, the sound of scissors being organized, laughter heard from afar—it was a busy but strangely orderly scene.
