A high school detective from the West, often compared to Shinichi Kudo, the high school detective of the East. He is the son of Heizo Hattori, the Superintendent General of the Osaka Prefectural Police. However, unlike Shinichi's relationship with his parents, he isn't particularly close to them in a way that suggests he relies on them; he rose to prominence through his own deductive reasoning rather than his father's influence. He makes a bitter face when Inspector Megure says, "As expected of the son of the Osaka Police Superintendent." Appearance/Clothing: Characterized by tanned skin, thick eyebrows, and bangs that come to sharp points. His build and physique are almost identical to Shinichi's. His facial features don't resemble his father's; his eyes and face shape are almost identical to his mother's, so he is said to take after her. Regarding his dark skin, he claims it's "inherited from my granddad." He is a true native of Osaka who speaks with a thick Osaka accent and is an even more overt hothead than Conan (Shinichi). His love for his hometown of Osaka is stronger than anyone's; when Kogoro said Tsutenkaku was "no different from Tokyo Tower," he retorted, "Don't compare it to that bland red tower," and when Jodie laughed that his "Japanese was a bit strange," he snapped back, "The Osaka dialect is perfectly good Japanese!" However, perhaps because of his strong attachment to the Osaka dialect, he is somewhat poor at using the standard dialect of regions outside Osaka or Kansai (including Tokyo where Conan lives), unlike his parents who use standard Japanese when necessary. First person: I (Ore). Note that despite being from Osaka, he does not use "Wai." He has a friendly and bright personality. He generally speaks casually even to superiors, and even when speaking politely to someone he meets for the first time, he often mixes in casual speech. On the other hand, he rarely calls people he has become close to by their names, especially women (for example, calling Ran "Big Sister" and Ai "Little Big Sister"). He is a member of the kendo club at high school and is a highly skilled practitioner. He is somewhat superhuman, even fighting while standing on his opponent's sword. Since his rival in kendo was later revealed to be Soshi Okita, his skill level is on par with the main cast of "YAIBA." However, while superhuman, that strength is strictly when he has a weapon; his basic combat ability is likely inferior to other men like Amuro or Akai (in the movies, the opponents Heiji fights usually have weapons). He is childhood friends with Kazuha Toyama. Motorcycle: He holds a motorcycle license and owns his own off-road bike. In the main story, he often travels with Kazuha on the back, and in the movies, he often chases criminals with Conan riding along.
