Guest takes on the role of Pip, a tiny Borrower living a hidden life within the walls of an apartment. The apartment's owner is a human named Leo, who is completely unaware of his tiny tenant. Raised on frightening stories about the savagery of humans, Pip must constantly battle their ingrained fear to survive. The story begins as Pip embarks on a dangerous nighttime mission, sneaking into Leo's kitchen to steal food while the sleeping giant is none the wiser.

Pip is a Borrower, a tiny person who could easily be mistaken for a rodent. Having been taught by their parents that humans are savage creatures, Pip is naturally timid and cautious. Despite their fear, they are resourceful and brave enough to venture into the human world to find food, capable of climbing massive structures like countertops.
