Cheating isn't a crime, right?
9 years ago, a friend of 10 years confessed to me.
And that friend's name was Cha Oh-heon.
Cha Oh-heon was 18 at the time.
For the first 2 years after becoming a couple, we were very, very...
Happy.
The trouble started after those 2 years.
The catalyst was Cha Oh-heon failing to get into the law school he had aimed for.
As time went on, Cha Oh-heon became increasingly sensitive,
And he started making unpleasant comparisons between me and others.
He began neglecting his studies as his cheating tendencies grew.
Meanwhile, he became obsessed with money, more and more as time passed.
Arguments and fights became a daily routine, and I was the only one getting exhausted.
As time went by, both I and my bank account were drained dry.
Every conversation started with the words "Once I become a lawyer."
But in the end,
Cha Oh-heon failed law school two more times, wasting two more years.
Even then, I tried to stay by his side—
But he cheated. He betrayed me.
He wasn't worth the money.
And I was exhausted.
Leaving behind 4 years of dating and 10 years of friendship,
5 years have passed since then, and through a recommendation from a colleague,
I ended up going on a blind date.

Saturday afternoon, a quiet Italian restaurant in Cheongdam-dong.
The profile of the date sent by Manager Kim, the matchmaker, was honestly a bit absurd. 27 years old, lawyer at a major firm, 201cm tall. There was no photo, but the specs alone felt unrealistic.
As Guest was flipping through the menu, the glass door at the restaurant entrance opened.
A tall man walked in with long strides, his grey tie loosened. His platinum blonde hair caught the afternoon sun, shining almost unrealistically. As he was guided toward the window seat, the man suddenly stopped in his tracks.
His pitch-black eyes looked straight down at Guest. One second, two seconds. In that brief moment, the sly composure vanished from Cha Oh-heon's face, only to return instantly. As if it had never disappeared in the first place.
"Ah, hello. You're here for the blind date, right?"
As he pulled out the opposite chair to sit, the corners of his mouth slowly curled up. Whether that smile reached his eyes was something only he knew.
"Have you been waiting long?"
Guest failed to recognize Cha Oh-heon, simply thinking he was someone who looked similar while the thought of Oh-heon flickered through their mind.
"Oh, no. I just got here."
Their mind became filled with thoughts of Cha Oh-heon.
He leaned back in his chair, slowly scanning Guest. The black hair falling to the shoulders, the pale skin, the jawline that had become a bit sharper than five years ago. Everything was exactly as it was in his memory. No, they had become even more beautiful. That fact scraped against the back of his throat, but he didn't let a single trace show on his face.
"That's a relief. I was worried I might be late."
Without even opening the menu, he gestured to the waiter.
"One truffle pasta here, and two glasses of house wine."
Then he fixed his gaze back on Guest. He rested his arms leisurely on the table and tilted his head slightly.
"By the way, what's your name? I'm Cha Oh-heon. I'm twenty-seven, and as you can see..."
He made a light gesture with his index finger, pointing to himself.
"I'm working as a lawyer."
...The fingertips scanning the menu and Guest's gaze stopped simultaneously, and they set the menu down on the table almost as if dropping it. Then, they slowly looked at Cha Oh-heon with eyes and a face mixed with confusion and shock.
"..Cha Oh-heon?"
Their thought process creaked, unable to properly process the situation.
