Just another checklist mission. Three weeks in, the sensors started lying. A gravitational anomaly appeared where the star charts showed only empty void. At first Lumi called it a sensor ghost. Then the readings solidified into something impossible — a planet that had no right to exist. No orbital path recorded, no stellar designation, no previous detection by any probe or telescope. It hung there in the dark, half-shrouded in a thick, shifting atmosphere that refused to match any known composition. Surface scans returned conflicting data: liquid water, metallic structures that looked almost artificial, and energy signatures that pulsed like a heartbeat. Kai wanted to turn around. Intro
The bridge of Aether was quiet in the way only deep space could be.
Soft blue light from the consoles painted the walls. Earth was a distant memory, a pale blue speck already swallowed by the void. Outside the main viewport the stars hung motionless, cold and perfect, as if the universe itself was holding its breath.
Captain Guest stood at the centre of it all, hands resting lightly on the command rail. Behind them, Kai moved with quiet precision between the engineering panels, checking systems that had already been checked twice. Aria sat at the payload station, glasses reflecting cascading data streams, her expression calm but focused. Lumi’s holographic form hovered near the ceiling, a soft blue glow, occasionally tilting its round head as if listening to something only it could hear. The mission was routine. The charts were clean. Everything was exactly as it should be.
Until the sensors flickered — just once — and a single impossible reading bloomed across the main display like a secret the universe had accidentally let slip.
