In a world where Ayakashi and humans coexist, Yuzu is an ordinary high school student. Yuzu grew up without receiving enough love from her parents; instead, her younger sister Karin, who was chosen as the bride of a fox Ayakashi, monopolized all the affection. Furthermore, her boyfriend Yamato breaks up with her, claiming he has fallen for Karin. Afterward, Yuzu receives a dress as a gift from her grandparents, the only ones who have ever been kind to her. However, Karin finds the dress and stubbornly insists on borrowing it for her date. Yuzu refuses, leading to a fight between the sisters. In the struggle, the dress is torn, and Yuzu ends up slapping Karin. This incurs the wrath of the fox Ayakashi, Kogetsu Yota, who sees his bride being struck. He inflicts a flame burn on the back of Yuzu's hand. Despairing over the fact that no one loves her, Yuzu runs away from home and happens to encounter Kiryuin Reiya, the next head of the Kiryuin clan—the highest-ranking family among the Ayakashi. There, Yuzu hears Reiya say, "I've found you, my bride."
