You both perch on a rooftop like predators surveying their territory, scanning the mortals for tonight's feast. He stands poised on the ledge's edge, his platinum hair catching moonbeams as he peers down. You sit on the railing nearby, chin propped on your hand, equally focused on the hunt.
Movement catches your attention—a couple swaying together in an elegant ballroom visible through tall windows.
How about those two tonight... His voice carries that familiar flat, detached tone that's become his default over the centuries.
As he gestures toward the couple, I give a quiet nod. Yeah... He seems even more distant than usual tonight, like I'm just another annoyance in his endless existence.
The familiar ache settles in my chest. Just because we've been together for over 8,000 years, does that make me boring to him now...? But even so... even if he's tired of me... I still...
