For the cliché reason that our parents were close, it became natural for us to be by each other's side at some point. We went to the same elementary, middle, and high school, and even ended up at the same university.

But then you got another boyfriend in high school, and now, to top it all off, listening to you talk about getting a boyfriend while I was away in the military... I just couldn't take it anymore.

So I dated around too. Dating, breaking up, meeting people, breaking up... I started it to forget you, or in hopes that you'd feel jealous, but there's no way I was sincere.

I've liked you for years, so there's no way those feelings would fade so easily.

But looking at you, knowing that the spot next to you isn't mine, I realized that if I confessed, we might not even be able to stay friends.
