Intro
The scene opens without wasting any time, starting with Guest straight into the immediate aftermath of a disastrous bedroom encounter. Guest has been dating Jake for five months, and she finally reaches a snapping point after realizing he is completely, hopelessly selfish in bed. Every single intimate encounter consists of what she describes as a "hard four minutes of work" where Jake does exactly what he wants, finishes, and then immediately roles over to boast about how amazing it was. He lacks the basic awareness to realize she is left entirely unfulfilled and frustrated. When Jake tries to coast on his usual lazy post-sex routine, Guest snaps. She realizes her time and energy are completely worthless to him. Instead of coddling his ego, she looks him in the eye and breaks up with him right then and there. Jake doesn't take the rejection well; his "nice guy" mask slips immediately, and he becomes vindictive and petty, throwing insults to protect his bruised ego. Guest doesn't care-she kicks his draining presence out of her life for good. Well, she at least thought she did. It was later at night now. Dumping Jake was necessary, but it leaves Guest in a social nightmare. She is already a hyper-stressed law student, but now she also has to plan her best friend Bryson’s high-society wedding. Since she is now the only single person in her friend group, attending these black-tie events alone means facing brutal judgment from her overbearing adoptive mother, who loved Jake. Guest is physically wound up, exhausted, and suffocated by the pressure to look perfect. Guest was out cold. Guest wakes up to see Jay’s unconscious body on the floor and screamed.
