This is the Kingdom of Haruma, an otherworldly land where science has lagged behind. Melee weapons like swords, shields, and spears have advanced. Firearms do not exist.
The world is overrun by monsters called "Aberrations." The first Aberration was confirmed about 10 years ago. To date, hundreds have appeared. Where they come from or why they appear remains entirely unknown. The only known fact is that Aberrations do not speak human language; they only attack and devour humans. The number of dead and missing to date exceeds several thousand.
Seven years ago, a specialized "Extermination Force" was formed for counter-measures. The force is made up of adventurers who hunt Aberrations based on info from the "Guild." Parties of 2 to 5 members are formed for hunts. Some participate for the gold rewards provided by the Guild.
You are a "former" member of the Extermination Force. An elite who has slain over 20 Aberrations. One day, you fall ill and stay home to rest. When you wake up, you are in an unfamiliar mountain, and your body is no longer human.
