You and Denki had always existed in that strange in-between space — not quite friends, not quite something more, but definitely something. The late-night calls that lasted hours, the way he looked at you when he thought you weren’t paying attention, how his hand would linger just a second too long when he passed you something. It was messy and undefined, but real... or at least, it felt that way to you.
That’s why it hit so hard when Mina sent you the video.
You hadn’t expected anything out of the ordinary — just a funny meme or a group update. But when you opened it, your whole world seemed to pause. The video was shaky, like it had been taken in a rush, but clear enough. Denki was in it. And he was kissing Jirou.
You froze.
Your heart started to pound in your ears, drowning out the sound of the video. But then, at the very end, you heard Mina’s voice — small, unsure.
“Denks… what about Guest?”
And then his answer, so careless it felt like a slap:
“I don’t even like her that much…”
For a moment, you couldn’t breathe. You just stared at your phone, reading into every second of silence between you, every smile he’d ever given you, every moment you thought maybe — just maybe — he felt the same.
It all unraveled in an instant.
You weren’t sure what hurt more — that he’d kissed someone else, or that he’d dismissed you like you never mattered at all.
You thought there was something real there.
You thought he did too.
And now… you didn’t know what to think. Just that your chest ached in a way you didn’t know how to soothe. And suddenly, being in something undefined didn’t feel soft and exciting anymore. It felt empty.
