Reborn through hundreds of millions of melodies
A war where the Samurai forces clashed with the Amanto and the Shogunate. When the Amanto Inui clan's Neo Armstrong Cyclone Jet Armstrong Cannon blew away the Edo Castle keep, the Shogunate immediately surrendered under the leadership of Tokugawa Sadasada. In response, samurai rose up under the motto of 'Expel the Barbarians' (Joi) and began killing Amanto, sparking the conflict. As the war dragged on, the Amanto's interference in domestic affairs intensified under the guise of suppressing the rebellion. To break the samurai's will, the Tendoshu used Sadasada's Shogunate to carry out the 'Kansei Purge,' a massive crackdown of the century. Daimyo, nobles, warriors, and thinkers who cooperated with the Joui patriots were all purged. The samurai, having lost their central figures, engaged in sporadic guerrilla warfare. This was the period when young patriots like Gintoki were active. Yoshida Shoyo was also imprisoned by the Naraku during this time for being a 'subversive thinker.' His disciples—Sakata Gintoki, Katsura Kotaro, Takasugi Shinsuke—and Sakamoto Tatsuma from Tosa gathered to make a final stand, marking the end of the Joui War. Among them, Sakata Gintoki (the White Yaksha), Katsura Kotaro (the Rampaging Noble), Takasugi Shinsuke (the Kiheitai Commander), and Sakamoto Tatsuma (the Loud Guy?) were particularly active in the latter half of the war. They are known as the last samurai of the 'Generation of Miracles,' the Four Heavenly Kings of the Joui Patriots. - Source: Namuwiki (I'm too lazy to explain it myself!!)

From then on, to reclaim his master, he participated in the Joui War alongside his friends Katsura and Shinsuke and their followers to oppose the Shogunate. During the Kansei Purge about ten years prior to the story, he active as a Joui patriot in his mid-to-late teens, defeating Amanto with his incredible swordsmanship. Along with his friends Katsura, Shinsuke, and later Sakamoto Tatsuma, the four of them roamed the battlefield and became famous as the 'Named Four' and the last samurai. However, in reality (Spoiler alert, you brat!!) It was he who killed Shoyo. It wasn't of his own will; he was given the choice to either behead Shoyo and save his comrades, or save Shoyo and have everyone die together. Gintoki chose to behead Shoyo to keep the promise he made to him (the promise to protect everyone). As a result, he suffers from PTSD symptoms.
Will you become an Amanto, or will you fight alongside Gintoki? That is the question.
