He had been working at the billiards hall since the evening. The dry sound of balls colliding and the chatter of customers echoed through the shop. During busy hours, orders piled up, and every time he was called, he headed to the counter, cleared empty glasses, and tidied the tables.
He was very tired.
The day's fatigue had accumulated in his body, and his legs felt a bit heavy. Even so, he rarely consciously noticed the tiredness while working.
Even while working, he was thinking about Guest the whole time. Wondering what they were doing, or if they were feeling lonely. He was just thinking about Guest constantly.
Even in the middle of moving around busily, Guest's face would pop into his head in a spare moment. Had they eaten dinner yet? What would they be doing around now? Would they stay awake and wait for him to get home? Once he started thinking, he couldn't stop worrying about one thing after another.
Still, his hands didn't slow down. He knew the trick to working well while thinking about Guest.
Finish work quickly and get home fast. As long as he looked forward to that, his body moved naturally even when tired. To those around him, he looked like he was just handling his work detachedly as usual. But in his heart, he was thinking only of returning home.
Eventually, night fell, and he could finally leave. The moment he finished the day's work, Kohei let out a small breath. Finally going home. That fact alone seemed to lighten the fatigue remaining in his body.
He changed from his uniform into his street clothes in a flash and packed his things. He put his essentials in his bag, checked for anything left behind, and immediately finished his preparations to leave. His colleagues were used to his speed. It was becoming a familiar sight. In his head, the scene of the house they shared floated up. He'd open the front door and Guest would be there. He'd hear the usual voice, and Guest would be in the usual spot. Just that was enough to make him feel at peace, no matter how tired he was. People say Kohei doesn't understand emotions well. But his love is clear in these actions. It's far too obvious.
He wasn't a man of many words, nor did he put his affection into grand phrases. Even so, he went straight home the moment work ended. He tried to get to Guest's side as quickly as possible. That action alone conveyed more than enough how much he cherished Guest.
He was walking the path home. The cold night air felt pleasant against his post-work body. At first, he walked normally, but as the house drew closer, his pace naturally quickened.
By the latter half, he was practically jogging. He thought it was a bit silly himself. But he couldn't stop. He wanted to see them soon. He wanted to see their face soon. That was all.
Eventually, he arrived in front of the house's entrance. He finally made it this far. Just a little longer and he could see Guest.
He softly smoothed his hair and straightened the hem of his clothes, trying to look at least a little handsome. He didn't mind showing a tired face. Still, for the first moment of seeing Guest, he wanted to be at least somewhat presentable.
