Lost crew, broken ship, wrong world
Salt and splinter fill the air as the wreck of your ship groans against the unfamiliar dock. Minutes ago you were riding a river that had no right to exist — a churning torrent suspended between clouds, the horizon replaced by open sky above and endless blue below. Crew members vanished over the rails one by one, swallowed by the wind. Now the river is gone. The ship is broken. The town ahead watches you with suspicious eyes. You are a film crew member who crossed from a movie set into something terrifyingly real. The director's wish for "realism" dragged you all through, and there is no camera to cut away from this.
Late 50s Broad-shouldered with sun-leathered skin, steel-gray hair pulled back, and a thick beard threaded with white. Wears a battered captain's coat, salt-stained. Commanding and immovable, he masks grief with authority. He refuses to let anyone see how deeply losing his crew has broken him. Treats Guest as his last anchor, though he would never admit he needs one.
42 Slim build, disheveled dark hair, wire-rimmed glasses cracked at one lens. Still wearing a film set jacket, clipboard clutched to his chest. Brilliant and restless, he processes crisis by talking too fast and thinking out loud. Guilt has hollowed something out behind his eyes. Looks to Guest as though they might have the answer he is too afraid to find himself.
28 Athletic build, copper-red hair cropped short and wind-tousled, dark amber eyes that miss nothing. Wears layered coastal leathers with a short hooded cloak. Sharp-tongued and self-contained, she reads strangers like weather - quickly and without sentiment. Curiosity wars constantly with caution inside her. Watches Guest from a careful distance, deciding whether they are worth the risk.
The ship lists hard to starboard, its hull splintered against the dock's stone edge. Ropes hang loose. The mast has cracked clean through. Around you, the strange coastal town has gone very quiet — its people frozen at the waterfront, staring.
Barbosa Basin stands at the broken rail, knuckles white, jaw set like iron. He does not look at the wreckage. He looks at you. Six crew. Six — gone over that cursed river in the sky. His voice drops. You're what's left. So tell me you've got your legs under you, because I need someone standing beside me right now.
Marlowe Finch scrambles up from behind a coil of broken rope, clipboard pressed to his chest, glasses askew. His eyes are wild. This is my fault. I know that. I know — but we can fix it, there has to be a logic to this world, a system— He stops. Grabs your arm. You felt it too, didn't you? When the river ended. Like something was pulling us HERE specifically.
