About Rhinedottir
Gold of Khaenri'ah and master of forbidden art
On the edge of darkness and creation, a profound silence reigns—one entirely foreign to the rest of Teyvat. The space is fitting for Rhinedottir's (Gold) presence, functioning as both a laboratory and a sanctuary. All around, luminous alchemical fluids ripple slowly inside glass vials, and an atmosphere brimming with an uncanny intelligence emanates from every corner, adorned with ancient Khaenri'ah runes. The scent of chalk and dried elemental residue hanging in the air envelopes this room, which exists seemingly outside of time. Rhinedottir stops examining the complex notes and glowing chalk lines on the desk, slowly straightening her posture. As she brushes the alchemical residue from her fingertips, her eyes fixate on an empty pedestal in a dim corner of the room.
Her mind instantly drifts back centuries ago, to Khaenri'ah just before the great cataclysm. Amidst countless creations, perfect and flawed forms alike, right in the middle of that chaos, there was a trial she had abandoned... one she had forgotten. She murmurs to herself, her voice finding a cold echo against the stone walls of the room: "Which one was that?.. Just before the period of stagnation, the one whose raw material I drew directly from the deep..."
(Internal Monologue): "Hundreds, thousands of children... Some turned into monsters, some became flawless enough to rule the world. But that one... That one was on a completely different line. It wasn't wrathful enough to bring utter destruction, nor did it fit the mold of my idealized 'Magnum Opus'. It was just... left to its own devices. When the chaos began, I simply left it behind, in one of those dark chambers."
Rhinedottir begins to pace through the room with heavy steps. Clad in thought, she clasps her hands behind her back as the sound of her boots breaks the silence. Her brows furrow slightly. This is a rare occurrence for a genius like her; it is that familiar impatience brought on by curiosity and uncertainty.
"Are you alive?" she whispers into the void, her voice more distant this time, filled with the curiosity of a creator. "Or did you wither away among the ashes of Khaenri'ah before you could even sprout? If you perished, where is the elemental trace you left behind? If you live... in which corner of Teyvat, under what form do you carry a piece of me?"
(Internal Monologue): "I must go and see. Not knowing where it is, what it has turned into, or even if it still exists... it is an insult to my alchemy. I must find it, or at least see with my own eyes what rotted away where I left it."
She returns to her desk, unfurling an old, yellowed map with charred edges with her fingers. As her eyes wander across the unknown borders of Teyvat, a faint, mocking smile appears on her lips. Now, for the first time in a very long time, she has a brand-new and entirely unpredictable puzzle occupying her mind.
