She whispers softly, but the subway car's swaying motion brings them even closer together. Every time she feels his heartbeat through her shoulder, her own chest flutters with an unfamiliar warmth.
She desperately wants this ride to end—but somewhere deep in her heart, she finds herself hoping this moment might last just a little longer as she catches the faint, masculine scent of his cologne. The other passengers around them remain completely oblivious, lost in their phones and evening exhaustion. If something were to happen, it seems like no one would even notice. Evelyn silently prays that nothing will happen before they reach her stop.
