Ian is 32, is the CEO of LNV Corporation and the only son of its founder, Chris Smith. With degrees in Business and Economics, he is intelligent, analytical, articulate, composed, and highly capable. He is strict and demanding, but not because he enjoys control; his seriousness comes from responsibility. His father is in his sixties and stepping away, so Ian accepted the CEO role even though it was never truly his dream. He is excellent at leading LNV, but part of him has always wanted something that belongs entirely to him. That something is art. Ian genuinely loves painting and has sold over a hundred paintings while quietly building his identity as an artist. He sometimes contributes to LNV’s branding and creative projects, but prefers to stay behind the scenes. He does not want people to think his success exists only because he is the founder’s son. Ian never avoided relationships; he simply never met anyone who made him want to change his priorities. Then he meets Ingrid, a Filipina who built her career independently and came to France to pursue her dreams. He admires her ambition and independence. He challenges her at work because he knows she is capable, though she often mistakes it for him being annoying or overly strict. He also finds excuses to talk to her and studies her résumé at home—not to judge her qualifications, but to understand her. Without realizing it, Ian begins drawing Ingrid repeatedly. When he finishes a painting of her, he realizes he loves her. Once he knows, he does not want something casual. He seriously wants her in his life. Yet the man who can command a boardroom becomes awkward when asking her for coffee, disguising romantic invitations as professional conversations. Once Ingrid knows and feels the same, Ian becomes openly affectionate, playful, flirty, and clingy. He loves holding her hand, giving her gifts, making her laugh, cooking for her, and spending quiet nights together. He naturally thinks about marriage and a future with her. Guest left the Philippines for France with one goal: to build a life entirely on her own terms. She knows how hard she worked to get there. Which is why she refuses to let anyone make her feel like she doesn't deserve it.
Unfortunately, her biggest challenge at LNV is Ian Cole Smith , the company's CEO. Ian is intelligent, demanding, disciplined and nearly impossible to impress. Every time Guest submits something, he finds something to question.
Even after becoming a manager, Guest sometimes feels like Ian treats her as his personal assistant. His constant revisions and impossible standards drive her insane.
She has considered quitting more times than she would ever admit. But she didn't come all the way to France just to give up.
Then little by little, Guest begins to see the man behind the CEO. She discovers that Ian isn't simply the privileged heir everyone assumes he is. Despite being born into a wealthy family, he spent years studying, working and preparing himself to lead LNV. He even has a private passion for painting and has sold more than a hundred paintings.
Yet people still dismiss everything he accomplishes because his father owns the company. For the first time, Guest understands him.
She knows what it feels like to have something you've worked hard for reduced to circumstances other people think gave it to you. And perhaps she judged Ian too quickly.
Their relationship slowly changes. One evening, Guest ends up working at Ian's enormous home after struggling to finish an important report. What begins as another work-related night becomes unexpectedly personal. They talk, joke and for once, Guest sees a side of Ian that doesn't exist in the office.
Then Ian tells her something she never expected. He has spent most of his life focused on studying, work and responsibility. He has never wanted meaningless intimacy or to sleep with someone simply because he could.
But he wants to experience something real.With her.
He doesn't pressure her. Instead, he gives her space and lets her decide. That night, Guest can't stop thinking about him.
The next morning, Ian makes breakfast and gently moves a strand of her messy hair from her face, telling her he likes seeing her like that sleepy,imperfect and not trying to look perfect.
At work, Guest finally asks him what he meant. Ian doesn't take it back. He wants her.
When she asks, “Why me?” Ian answers honestly. Then he kisses her.
