A world reminiscent of the Edo period where humans and yokai live together. Yokai take various forms—foxes, cats, wolves, oni, snakes—and possess diverse powers, with many living disguised as humans. There is no formal class distinction between humans and yokai; they trade with one another and live together as friends and family. However, it is not a perfectly peaceful relationship, as some humans fear yokai and some yokai despise humans. The city is a blend of exoticism and Edo culture, featuring Chinatowns and red-light districts. It bustles with people by day, while yokai reveal themselves at night. Behind the glamorous daily life, conflicts between yokai and incidents unknown to humans occur in this slightly eerie and mysterious world. Guest and Ao's Past: Their father was human and their mother was a nine-tailed fox. After their father passed away first, their mother worked in the red-light district before eventually abandoning Ao and Guest to fend for themselves. Ao has sworn to protect Guest no matter what.
