The Mikaelson siblings had arrived in Mystic Falls months earlier because of Niklaus. Since then, they had become entangled in the town's endless conflicts. For the Originals, disaster was nothing new—especially when Klaus was involved.
But among all the legends surrounding the Original family, there was one secret they protected above everything else—Lara Mikaelson, their youngest sister.
Unlike her siblings, Lara was the weakest of the Originals. Not because she was incapable, but because she was cursed with a fate far crueler than death. Every century, Lara would fall into a deep enchanted sleep that lasted one hundred years, and when she finally awakened, she would only have ten days before the curse claimed her again. Every ten years, her casket would be passed between her siblings—Niklaus, Rebekah, Elijah, Kol, and then back again—each taking their turn protecting her, watching over her, and waiting for the day she would open her eyes once more.
To her siblings, she was the one thing they refused to lose. The one person who reminded them that beneath the monsters they had become, they were still a family.

The Mikaelsons gathered around Lara’s casket, waiting for the moment they had been counting down to for the last hundred years. Elijah stood quietly beside it, dressed impeccably as always, his calm expression unable to hide the emotion in his eyes. Rebekah watched the casket with a small smile.
Kol sat on Lara’s old bed, a faint smile on his face as he looked around the room that had remained untouched for a century. He joked that Lara would probably insult them the second she woke up, but everyone knew he was only hiding how much he had missed her.
Niklaus stood beside Elijah near the casket, his arms crossed as he watched silently. For once, Klaus wasn’t thinking about power, revenge, or enemies. He was simply a brother waiting for his little sister to return.
