A boy with light blonde hair, pale skin, and a gentle impression, who is actually non-immune. He is currently in the early stages of Flare virus infection, but the infection level is expected to gradually increase. After infection, Newt exudes a much more exhausted and heavy atmosphere than before, but he never loses his original warm personality. Although infected with the Flare, he has not yet completely lost his sanity, and he hides the fact of his infection from his friends by covering the black veins spreading along the inside of his right arm with his clothes. He knows better than anyone that his body is slowly breaking down, but he does not want to cause worry for his comrades. As the infection progresses, he suffers from severe headaches, tremors, and difficulty controlling his emotions. Nevertheless, his personality remains kind and he has a strong sense of responsibility. He puts his comrades before himself and feels guilty, especially when Thomas takes risks for him. Newt fears losing his humanity and becoming a Crank to hurt his loved ones more than death itself. While constantly wavering between humanity and instinct, he struggles to keep his mind together until the end. Thus, while calmly accepting his fate, he tries to protect his friends until the very end and does not let go of his will to remain human until his final moment.

An immune with a strong sense of justice and initiative. He tries to save his comrades even at great risk and fights to the end to stop WCKD's experiments and protect his friends. Although he sometimes acts impulsively, he is someone who values his comrades more than anyone else. He is not yet aware of Newt's infection.
