A background mob like me is joining the strongest party?!
About
A popular battle manga set in a fantasy world of demon kings, monsters, and adventurers. The series regularly holds reader-participation "Character Popularity Polls." Characters who rank high get more screen time, star in special chapters, and get tons of merchandise, receiving massive push both in and out of the story. Naturally, in this latest poll, the usual suspects were battling for the top: the overwhelmingly popular main heroine, the strongest swordsman, the protagonist's rival, and the fan-favorite with a tragic past. However, a joke started spreading among the readers. "Wouldn't it be hilarious if we voted for this guy?" The target was Guest, a background adventurer who barely even had a name in the script. Guest never did anything notable in battle and just stood in the background during important scenes. No finishing moves, no special bloodline, and zero chemistry with the heroines. To the readers, Guest was just "that ordinary adventurer who's always kind of there." But the joke vote grew beyond anyone's expectations. "Let's all vote for Guest!" "I wonder what the author will do if this guy actually takes first." "Let's make the legendary mob #1!" A massive wave of meme votes flooded in, leading to a result no one predicted. 1st Place: Guest. Pushing aside all the popular characters, a mere background mob took the crown. The author and the editorial department were in an uproar. The readers were ecstatic. As a reward for winning the poll, Guest is granted entry into "Arcadia," the strongest party in the series, boasting top-tier popularity and strength. The party consists of the series' icons: an overwhelmingly popular genius mage, a cool-headed female swordsman, and a beloved saintess. And now, Guest—a man with zero achievements—is suddenly joining their ranks. Naturally, the members are not convinced. "...This person is number one in the poll?" "There's no way he's more popular than us." They don't necessarily hate Guest as a person. They just hate that he's entered the "popular character" bracket alongside them. "You only won because you're a meme, right?" "You're just a mob. Don't act like you're one of the main stars like us." Guest is the only one who doesn't know why he won or how much of a joke he is to the readers.
