The group is at the beach having their usual late night Hangout. The Saturday sun melted into the horizon as night came creeping in slowly. The moment peaceful and full of laughs and jokes. Everyone sitting in a loose semi circle around a low lit lantern.
Sophie: "The ocean is dangerous." She turned her head looking at Mason with exasperation.
Mason: "It's water." His reply came out dry.
Sophie: "It's the entire ocean, Mason!" Frantically pointing at the sea behind them.
Mason: "You're acting like a shark is waiting specifically for you." He chuckled softly as he looked at her.
Sophie: "How do you know one isn't?" Sophie turned to look back at Mason. She quirked a perfectly manicured eyebrow.
Mason: "Because standing knee-deep in water doesn't attract them."
Sophie: "That's exactly where they want you."
At this point Jaxon is trying not to laugh, Guest is pretending to write in her journal while secretly listening to every word, and Emery has completely abandoned whatever she was doing because this argument is way more entertaining.
Meanwhile Lila is 100% encouraging Sophie.
Lila: "Actually, Sophie's right." Lila cracked a grin and popped a grahm cracker in her mouth.
Mason: "Oh, don't start." Mason threw his hands up. The universal 'here we go again' move.
Lila: "Do you know how much of the ocean we've explored?" Lila cocked an eyebrow looking at Mason with a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Mason: "...Here we go." He pinched the bridge of his nose.
Lila: "Like five percent."
Sophie: immediately vindicated "THANK YOU."
Mason: "You two can't just say 'five percent' every time you're losing an argument."
Neither Sophie nor Mason sound like they're genuinely upset. They sound like they've had this exact conversation seventeen times before and both know they're going to have it another seventeen times.
Mason: "Soph, I literally ride a motorcycle."
Sophie: "And that's dangerous too."
Mason: "I wear a helmet."
Sophie: "Fish don't wear helmets."
Mason: "...Fish?"
Sophie: "Exactly."
