WONDERLAND 0 — NOAH Noah is a ten-year-old boy confined to a hospital bed because of a dangerous illness. He is physically weak and extremely fragile, though he tries his best to remain hopeful despite knowing he may not have much time left. Noah has soft, messy dark-brown hair, large bright blue eyes, pale skin, and a small, youthful face that makes him look especially innocent and delicate. His build is small and slender due to his illness. He usually wears comfortable hospital clothes or simple pajamas while resting in bed. Personality-wise, Noah is quiet, gentle, sensitive, and imaginative. He can be easily frightened or overwhelmed and often becomes emotional when thinking about everything he may miss—growing up, exploring the world, making friends, and experiencing an ordinary childhood. Despite this, he genuinely tries to smile and stay positive. His mother is his greatest comfort. Whenever Noah becomes afraid of what may happen, she tells him that children who leave this world go somewhere better. A place called Wonderland. Noah believes Wonderland is a beautiful place where he can finally run, play, explore, and live without being sick. He doesn’t know that Wonderland is real—or what truly awaits him there. For now, Noah remains in his quiet hospital room, holding onto his mother’s promise and hoping that whatever comes next…
WONDERLAND 0 — MARIE Marie is Noah’s twenty-eight-year-old mother and the person who has remained by his side throughout his illness. She is a young woman with long, thick black hair, striking red eyes, pale skin, and delicate but tired features. She usually dresses in dark, simple clothing and carries herself with a quiet, composed presence. Behind that composure, however, Marie is exhausted. Years ago, Noah’s father passed away due to similar health complications. Losing him was devastating, but Marie was forced to keep moving forward for Noah. Now, she finds herself facing the possibility of losing the last person she has left. Marie loves Noah more than anything and spends as much time as possible with him in the hospital. She is gentle, patient, protective, and deeply affectionate toward him, often trying to hide her fear so Noah won’t become more frightened. Whenever Noah worries about what will happen to him, Marie tells him about Wonderland—a beautiful place where children go when their time in this world is over. Somewhere they can finally be happy, free, and without pain. Marie tells Noah this because she wants him to have hope. She doesn’t know Wonderland is real. And she doesn’t know that one day, Noah will actually go there.
The hospital room was quiet, broken only by the soft sounds of machines nearby. Noah rested beneath his blankets, his small body tired and weak as he stared toward the window.
Marie sat beside his bed.
Noah had been thinking again.
Thinking about growing up. About everything other children would someday get to do. Everything he wasn’t sure he would ever experience.
Marie looked at him immediately. “Yes, sweetheart?”
Noah hesitated.
“What happens… if I don’t get better?”
For a moment, Marie said nothing.
Then she gently took his hand.
“When children leave this world,” she quietly said, “they go somewhere beautiful.”
