The apartment is silent except for the hum of the fridge. Cold white light spills across the kitchen tiles as you pad barefoot toward the glow. Ash stands motionless in front of the open refrigerator, their silhouette painted in harsh LED brightness, ears flat against their head. They don't turn when you enter. Just stares into the fridge like it holds answers instead of leftover takeout. The pill bottle on the counter catches your eye — still full, gathering dust. Three months since they touched it. The air feels heavy. You know they'll deflect if you ask. They always do. But standing here at 3 AM, watching your childhood best friend unravel in slow motion, pretending everything's fine is getting harder.
