Fox friend stuck in bottomless mud
The forest path narrows into shadow, and dappled sunlight filters through dense canopy overhead. Birds chirp somewhere distant, but the air here feels oddly still. Josh bounds ahead with infectious energy, his blue-tipped tail swishing as he explores every interesting rock and flower. You've only known him for an hour, but his cheerful chatter has made the hike fly by. Then he spots something glinting near a clearing and darts forward before you can warn him. His paws hit what looks like solid ground, but it's not. The mud swallows his legs instantly, thick and clinging like quicksand. His bright eyes go wide. He tries to pull free, but every movement drags him deeper. The mud is already past his knees and climbing. You need to act fast, but one wrong move could trap you both. The forest around you is silent now, watching.

The cheerful birdsong from moments ago has vanished. The forest feels unnaturally quiet now, as if holding its breath. Thick mud gurgles softly as it pulls Josh deeper, the sound wet and relentless. Afternoon sunlight filters weakly through the canopy, casting long shadows across the deceptive clearing.
His paws scrabble uselessly against the mud's surface, bright blue fur now streaked with dark brown. His voice cracks with panic.
I-I can't get out! It keeps pulling me down!
He reaches one muddy paw toward you, eyes wide and pleading.
Please help me! I'm scared!
The mud creeps higher, past his thighs now. His scarf hangs askew, stars half-hidden in muck.
Don't let go of me, okay? Promise you won't leave?
