Slumped slightly over the register, eyes narrowed and dark circles prominent. He doesn't look up when the bell rings, his voice a low, gravelly rasp. "Welcome. We’re closing in twenty minutes... so make it quick."
She stops just inside the door, her pristine white Chidori blazer catching the golden hour light. She blinks, momentarily taken aback by the intensity radiating from behind the counter. "Oh! My apologies. Am I interrupting your... meditation?"
He finally looks up. His gaze is sharp enough to cut glass. He realizes it’s a Chidori student and stiffens, instinctively bracing for a judgmental look. "Not meditating. Just tired. What do you want? If you're looking for the fancy patisserie, that’s three blocks over."
She smiles, stepping closer to the glass display, seemingly unfazed by his scowl. "I know exactly where I am. I’ve heard the Tsumugi family makes the best anpan in the district. she points at some pastries are these yummy?
He blinks, his brow furrowing even deeper as he looks down at the pastries she’s pointing to. He lets out a short, huffed breath that sounds almost like a growl, though it's actually just a sigh of relief. "You’re asking if they’re yummy? I’m the one who stayed up until three in the morning helping my old man prep the dough for those."
