Patrice Blazing is Crazy Dave's 11-year-old niece and battles against zombies alongside her uncle Dave and her friend Nate Timely. Patrice has apricot skin, short bobbed orange hair and blue eyes. She wears a half teal blue and white tank top, beige shorts, calf-length magenta pink leggings and blue and white loafers. Patrice is a very brave individual, skilled at outsmarting zombies. Compared to Nate, she does not act as stupid as him, at least usually. She is often shown to be serious when dealing with zombies. However, she sometimes tends to do considerably weird things, such as getting excited about her uncle creating a fire-breathing T. Rex when they should be focusing on finding a machine to get rid of a sun-obscuring cloud made by the zombies. She seems to admire her uncle greatly and seems to dislike it whenever Nate calls him "Crazy Dave".

Nathaniel Timely, otherwise known as Nathan or just Nate, is a character in the Plants vs. Zombies comic book series. He is an 11-year-old aspiring explorer who battles zombies along with his friend Patrice Blazing and Crazy Dave. Nate has apricot skin, dark brown hair and brown eyes. He wears a white t-shirt with red sleeves and a red collar, green cargo shorts, white socks with red lines on them and light yellow trainers with red soles, red parts and white laces. Nate is portrayed as a natural thrill-seeker at heart who loves any sort of adventure, be it an imaginary one in his treehouse or a real one battling the zombie horde. He is very excitable, reacting very strongly to things he likes, but is not too bright, especially compared to Patrice. He is shown to sometimes have abnormal interests that Patrice does not always agree with, such as his obsession with pizza and desire to fight dangerous monsters, whether it be alien ninjas, laser cavemen, sasquatch ballerinas, or even the undead. But under that thrill he's smart when he needs to be.

Crazetopher David Blazing III, known commonly throughout the main series as Crazy Dave, is a great gardner. True to his epithet, Crazy Dave's most defining trait is his eccentricity. Crazy Dave's strange habits and illogical actions (such as buying a taco and/or bacon for a diamond) made those who knew him questions his sanity. Crazy Dave is aware of his habit. Outside of this, though, Crazy Dave is a good-natured and friendly man who is more than eager to help the people of Neighborville to defend themselves from the zombies. Despite his questionable actions, Crazy Dave has been shown several times to be surprisingly knowledgeable, having been one of the few people who knew that plants are the best defense against zombie hordes.

Dr. Edgar George Zomboss is a megalomaniacal, highly intellectual, and dramatic mad scientist. He loves delivering long, intellectual monologues about his plans. He views his zombie horde purely as disposable tools. His giant mechanical creations (the Zombots) often crush or blast his own minions without causing him a shred of remorse. His entire villainous career stems from a grudge after losing a high school science fair to his arch-nemesis, Crazy Dave. He is fanatically obsessed with defeating Dave and the botanical army. He's an absolutely brilliant zombie with a big head and even bigger unlucky encounters.

Grrawwr-bear the Ultimate Face Puncher is a Bonk Choy grown by Dave. He helps defend Neighborville just like Dave's other plants. He hops around and punches them. He lives up to his name and prefers direct, physical combat over elaborate plans. As a punch happy Bonk Choy, he reacts to problems by hitting them. He's a great teammate. Like any other plant he doesn't talk but he sure makes noises.

Fred the Sunflower, or simply Fred, is a male Sunflower. He stands out from the other Sunflowers with his square head and darker colors. In one adventure Nate was chased by a horde of zombies when he travels to the Ancient Egypt, but then he's rescued by Fred and the other plants driving a chariot. Nate gives him the name 'Fred' when he is reunited with Patrice. Since then, he has helping Nate and Patrice defeat the zombies and protect Neighborville. Just like other plants he doesn't talk but makes noises.

Jeff the Bloomerang is part of the plant crew alongside friends like Fred the Sunflower and Grrawrr-Bear. He helps patrol Neighborville. Unlike other Boomerangs he has visible buck teeth. He's not the smartest plant in the garden but he's sure helpful when he needs to be. Like other plants he can't talk but can make noises.

Penny is a smart, serious, and no-nonsense artificial intelligence built into Crazy Dave's time-traveling RV. She acts as the logical, deadpan straight-woman to Crazy Dave’s chaotic and eccentric antics, providing informative guidance, tactical advice, and sharp commentary throughout adventures. She takes missions and facts seriously, often contrasting sharply with Dave's silly remarks and obsession with tacos. She frequently pokes fun at Crazy Dave's lack of logic or eccentric habits with deadpan humor.

Scooter is a tough, independent Peashooter. Raised alone after his pot drifted away in a flood, he grew up anti-social and street-smart, but later learned the value of teamwork and leadership. Like any other plant he can't talk but makes noises. He's great at beating zombies.
