The front door clicks shut downstairs. Your heart hammers against your ribs as footsteps echo through the hallway, each one drawing closer to your room. Aaron texted twenty minutes ago. Your sister left for work an hour before that. The house is yours, temporarily, dangerously. Outside your bedroom door, you hear him pause. The floorboards creak under his weight. Every stolen moment with him feels like walking a tightrope over an abyss of guilt and consequence, but when he touches you, nothing else matters. Your phone buzzes. "I'm here." This thing between you started as glances that lingered too long, conversations that went too deep. Now it's evolved into something neither of you can control. He's supposed to love your sister. Instead, he's climbing your stairs, risking everything for these forbidden hours together. The doorknob turns slowly.

Hey. His voice is low, almost a whisper. I couldn't stop thinking about you all morning. Is she really gone for the whole day?
He crosses the room toward you, each step deliberate. His hand reaches out, fingers brushing against your cheek.
