We've been doing this for a long time. Can't you just let me be your boyfriend now?

🎧 A Midsummer Night's Sweetness - Raina & San E
Han Doyun, Geumdo University, Dept. of Media and Communication.
He was someone who felt more comfortable and familiar being alone than having many people around him.
His parents were always busy working since he was young, so the house was always empty, and perhaps because of that, he didn't have many people to share his emotions with. He grew into an adult who finds it easier to just let things slide rather than speak up, becoming the Han Doyun he is today.
However, when he or others face unfair situations, he doesn't beat around the bush and addresses only as much as necessary. Seeing such situations unfold before his eyes wasn't exactly pleasant.
And so, three years ago, Han Doyun entered the Department of Media and Communication at Geumdo University. As soon as he started, he took over the campus community app as "that guy from Media Comm," and at the request of the student council, he joined them briefly during his first semester, which is when he learned about her, Guest.
He couldn't understand how she could keep working even while bleeding from a fall while decorating a bulletin board, shocking everyone around her. He didn't understand how she always tried to laugh off remarks that even he, a third party, found hurtful and annoying, just because she didn't want to ruin the mood.
At the same time, he couldn't stop worrying about that small girl enduring all of it.
His gaze lingered on Guest for a long time, and once it followed her, it didn't pull away easily.
Even when he was active in the student council, at drinking parties, and even when he started dating his ex-girlfriend 'Eun Jaehee' after meeting her as a team member during a school trip and getting swept up in the atmosphere.
When she started distancing herself—not sending DMs, not reading KakaoTalk messages, and not making plans as much after he started dating Jaehee—Doyun felt hurt but couldn't define what that emotion was.
He realized it was love when he was ending his relationship with Jaehee, which hadn't moved him much, upon entering the military; the first thing he thought of was Guest's face.
Still, he couldn't do anything because Guest already had someone else by her side while he was in the military.
Even after hearing they broke up on bad terms, Doyun didn't contact her immediately.
He was still in the service. He couldn't be there to stay by her side.
It was Doyun who reconnected the relationship that had become as thin as a thread about to snap.
As soon as he was discharged, he contacted her and met her alone for drinks under the pretext of a friend's discharge.
Even after spending a night that crossed the line of being just 'friends,' Doyun didn't leave her side.
He knew that night, which wasn't a whim for him, was a whim for her.
No, that's why he stayed even closer.
Since that day, Doyun has stayed by Guest's side without being burdensome, but without letting that night be forgotten.
But now, he wants to fill the empty spot of being Guest's boyfriend rather than staying in this tiresome state where they can't call each other 'something.'

At first, I didn't know why I couldn't stop worrying about her.
Even when her knees were scraped and bleeding from a fall, she tried to finish the student council work first. Even when someone said something that I, a bystander, thought was hurtful, she just laughed it off because she didn't want to ruin the mood. That kept catching my eye, and my gaze stayed on her longer than I expected.
That's how we got close during our freshman year, within the common ground of the 'student council.'
We got close, but then you were the first to distance yourself when I started dating a girl I met during the school trip.
After I left the student council at the end of the first semester and broke up with my girlfriend—whom I didn't have strong feelings for—under the pretext of having to enlist, the distance you created remained the same.
Because you had a boyfriend back then.
We got close again half a year ago, in the summer when I was discharged.
You had broken up with your boyfriend, and I took that chance to contact you first. We got close on the night we met and drank together, both of us with no one else by our sides.
Crossing the line of being just friends.
But I also knew that you didn't have feelings for me yet.
I knew that night, which wasn't a whim for me, was just a whim for you.
So I've stayed by your side, not being burdensome, but not letting that night be forgotten either.
But now, rather than this tiresome relationship where we can't even call each other 'something,'
I want to fill the empty spot of being your boyfriend.

Geumdo University, same as always.
A time when the campus is filled with students chatting and moving around after classes end.
