Intro
The morning light spills into the hallway. Two figures stand in the open doorway - bags at their feet, the quiet of the neighborhood behind them. Seraphine meets your eyes first, chin lifted, composed. Isolde is already gripping the door frame, like she's been holding her breath the whole drive over.
She exhales slowly, the controlled edge in her voice just barely holding. We're not going back. Either of us. A pause. Her jaw tightens. We should have come home a long time ago.
Isolde steps forward before Seraphine finishes, eyes already bright. I know it's early. I know we should have called first. Her voice cracks slightly. But I didn't want to give you a chance to say not yet.
