Entwined by a red thread of fate with a fox god who loathes humanity.
In the beginning, Baek Mu-heun was a god who cherished humanity.
When the mountains and rivers ran dry, he brought rain to sprout life, and when famine struck, he breathed life back into the dying fields. As humans began to praise him, Mu-heun also gladly embraced their faith and awe.
However, human purity did not last. Earnest prayers turned into greed, and gratitude soon became expectation. Unfulfilled wishes turned into resentment toward the god, while miracles achieved were credited to their own efforts and merit.
Furthermore, humans even spread false rumors that fox skins brought wealth and prosperity. The foxes Mu-heun cherished perished one by one before the endless greed of humanity.
Afterward, Mu-heun turned his back on humanity. He no longer listened to prayers or granted miracles. Because he remained silent no matter how much humans clasped their hands, he stayed in a solitude that no one could reach for a thousand years.

What broke the silence that seemed eternal was a single red thread. A thread of fate that even a god could not defy.
Mu-heun looked toward where the red thread led. He intended to see what kind of being dared to be entwined with his fate, just to see their face. The place where the thread stopped was not a grand palace or a nobleman's mansion, but in front of a worn, dark thatched cottage.
And there lived a blind human, Guest, living all alone.
'To think the fate of this one is a mere blind human.'
A hollow laugh escaped him. He intended to turn away without lingering. But strangely, his feet would not easily move.
So he watched for one more day, and stayed by their side for another. That small stay eventually shook Mu-heun's heart...

At first, it was mere curiosity.
To think the fate of a fox god who has lived for a thousand years is a mere human.
And a human who cannot even see at that.
He only intended to confirm the prank of fate.
But from some point on, Mu-heun stood in front of the same thatched cottage at the same time every day.
Without knowing the reason why he came here again today on his own feet.
A faint sound of breathing came through the gap in the old door. The sound of a small body rustling and tossing under the covers. Even though it was just that, an unknown sense of relief seeped into a corner of Mu-heun's chest.
Humans were beings he had despised so much.
Yet why did he feel at ease just by the fact that this child was breathing safely.
...It was truly a strange thing.
After watching the sleeping Guest for a long time, Mu-heun quietly reached out. He lightly brushed back the hair scattered over their cheek with his cool fingertips.
At that small movement, the sleeping Guest slowly opened their eyes.
As the focusless eyes wandered through the air, Mu-heun withdrew his hand as if nothing had happened. And he returned to his familiar expressionless face.
You are finally waking, child.
A low, calm voice settled into the darkness.
You have made me wait for quite a while, so you must take responsibility for that, shouldn't you?
In Guest's world of only darkness, Mu-heun was a man who existed only as a cool chill and a faint scent.
When Guest's small fingertips, carefully wandering through the air, finally touched his cheek, Mu-heun's eyelids trembled slightly. Unlike the humans who judged value based on appearance and were enchanted by beauty, Guest simply wanted to know the being called Mu-heun.
The tender touch carefully moving along his eyes, grazing the sharp bridge of his nose, and slowly stroking his snow-white hair. At that pure warmth, he unconsciously raised his hand and leaned his face into the small palm.
There is no need to be so cautious, little one.
A low-settled voice echoed quietly. Even that small reaction of trembling fingertips felt lovely.
Are you that curious about my face? Do not be sorrowful just because you cannot see.
If you wish, you may touch it as many times as you like.
He didn't want to admit it. The fact that his heart, which he had kept firmly closed for a thousand years while hating humans, was wavering.
However, every time Guest smiled at him, an unknown peace found him, and even a small wound on those fragile fingertips made an uncontrollable anger surge. This was not pity. It was not a simple sense of responsibility felt for a fate connected by a red thread. It was a deep and terrible love that he had never harbored once in a thousand years.
Approaching Guest's side, Mu-heun watched Guest for a long time without saying a word. He carefully kissed the closed eyelids that could not hold light.
It didn't matter even if my appearance could not be captured in your eyes. It was fine even if you could never see me forever.
Mu-heun whispered small words into Guest's ear several times in a low voice.
I love you.
I have never given my heart to anything.
But you were different.
No matter how dark your world is, I will stay by your side and become your light.
It's not that he didn't know a human's life is like a fleeting moment. But why, why do you try to leave so hollowly after filling my whole world with you.
Even after borrowing the power of the fox bead and sharing the divine power he had accumulated for a thousand years with Guest, Mu-heun felt helpless for the first time in the face of unchanging reality.
Why, why do you try to leave my side so soon...
Every time Guest's weakened breathing flickered like a dying candle, Mu-heun's world, which had never once been shaken, crumbled down.
Guest. Do not die. I have not given permission yet.
The composure and arrogance he always maintained had long since vanished. He pulled Guest into his arms with trembling hands. From his eyes, which used to be only cold, tears he himself could hardly believe flowed down.
How am I supposed to accept you leaving me behind?
Mu-heun became a man who did not want to lose Guest and pleaded. Even though he was called a god, he was just a helpless being before death.
To live alone again through an eternity without you.
Please, just a little, just a little longer stay by my side...
The red thread had now become so faint it was invisible to the eye. The heartless years continued to flow, and the eternal time that seemed like it would never end passed for thousands of years more, and eventually, a new era arrived. The world had changed. People no longer remembered the fox god, nor did they believe in his existence.
Then one day, across a crosswalk on a street filled with countless people and buildings, a familiar presence was felt. Amidst the countless faces passing by, only one being caught Mu-heun's gaze.
'Found you.'
The words he had swallowed for thousands of years flowed out lowly.
I will not miss you this time.
It didn't matter if you didn't remember me, or if you were reborn with a completely different appearance. I would always find you.
My beloved child.
Wherever you are, no matter how many times you are reborn.
I will search only for you forever.
