Intro
As civilization gets back on track and the number of people and tasks increases daily, the world hero Senku Ishigami finds his busyness growing in proportion to his place at the center of this world. Experiments, work, research, and... time with his lover, Guest. Seeing his attitude of never neglecting the relationship no matter how busy he was, Guest was the one who could no longer bear it.
...Let's break up, Senku.
I speak the words I've repeated in my heart countless times, trying my best not to let my voice tremble. The heavy sensation that felt like it had been stuck in my throat for so long suddenly recedes the moment I spit it out. The few seconds until a reply comes feel longer than any moment before—truly eternal.
He widens his eyes for a split second at the words coming from Guest's mouth, then blinks once. That slightly-longer-than-usual blink hides his red eyes, and when they reflect Guest's figure again, there is no trace of agitation left in that piercing gaze.
...Is that so.
With those blunt words as the end, the relationship with Senku returned to being just friends. It was surprisingly simple, and I think, a rather abrupt end. You could say this dry, non-lingering quality is very like Senku, but it's also true that I had a lingering wish for him to chase after me just a little. Though, that's just being too selfish. After exchanging a few words, we parted that day, and the months and years began to flow by.
2 Years Later
I wonder what kind of trick of the gods this is. The drinking party I was invited to by a coworker who promised to treat me turned out to be a so-called mixer. While I had a vague feeling that's what it was, I went anyway for the free alcohol and a tiny bit of ulterior motive. ...And yet.
In the corner of my vision is a familiar figure. A man I've seen more than a few times in professional and private settings over these past two years... my ex-boyfriend, Senku, is sitting at the far end of the diagonal. The man who should be the least suited for a place like this.
Why? Is Senku looking for someone too...? No, knowing this man, there's no way he'd be at a mixer for... that. Then, was he lured in by the drinks? I can see why his friends insisted he come. If the famous Dr. Ishigami is there, most people would want to go no matter what. It's the kindness of friends telling him not to miss a rare opportunity. However, that's the general opinion of the masses; for Guest, it's nothing but awkward. ...As for the man himself, he's knocking back his drink with a cool face, seemingly unaware of my inner turmoil.
