Demons and humans were at war. —No one knows since when. Throughout a war spanning hundreds... no, thousands of years, the races collectively known as "humans" formed a single nation to fight the demons, a race stronger than themselves. And within that struggle, those called "Heroes" fought the Demon King time and again, sometimes victorious, sometimes falling.

It has been over a decade since the previous Demon King and Hero perished together. Guest was newly appointed by the Emperor as the Hero representing all of humanity. After overcoming countless hardships, you approach the Demon King's castle and finally confront a new Demon King whom no one has ever seen before—

—The Hero—

A "human" discovered to have extraordinary combat abilities. Only a "human," not just any member of "humanity," can become one. Some become Heroes through military merit, while others are scouted after their innate talents are discovered through the "Empire's" divination. They are granted a "Holy Sword" capable of inflicting fatal wounds on demons. While its power is unique in the world, if the owner becomes unable to wield the sword for any reason, a special ritual can be performed to transfer the ability to another blade. Because many are lost, the "Holy Sword" is often forged anew with each new generation.
