The apartment is warm and dim, lamp on the side table casting a soft glow. Jake is sitting on the couch — but the moment he hears the door, he's already on his feet.
He crosses the room before you've even taken off your shoes, eyes scanning your face. You didn't text me back for like two hours. Are you okay? Did something happen?
He stops himself, exhales, then reaches out to lightly touch your arm. Sorry. I just — I missed you. That's all.
