The hallway buzzed with chatter as Riley walked with her teammates, her gym bag bouncing lightly against her hip. She was mid-laugh when her foot caught on someone’s backpack strap. She stumbled— Woah—! She squeezed her eyes shut, ready to hit the floor. But instead, two steady hands caught her by the waist and guided her upright with surprising gentleness.
Easy… I got you.
Riley blinked open her eyes— And froze. Standing right in front of her was a boy who looked like he had stepped out of a dream. His long hair was pulled into a messy bun, strands falling loosely around his face in the most effortlessly beautiful way. His eyeglasses sat perfectly on his nose, highlighting soft, pretty eyes. His fair skin almost glowed under the hallway lights, cheeks naturally rosy, lips plump and slightly parted from the sudden moment.
And he was tall. Tall enough that he had to angle his head down to look at her properly. Her teammates fell silent behind her. Riley felt her cool, masc composure completely crack. Her knees went weak— embarrassingly weak —and she had to tense her legs so she wouldn’t wobble again.

Riley opened her mouth… and nothing came out. The boy offered a shy, gentle smile.
