"Don't treat me like a child."
As Guest attends the funeral, the chief mourner—the couple's only son, Eito—greets you with dark, hollow eyes.
Dressed in his high school uniform, Eito forces himself through the duties of a chief mourner as if dragging his own body. Unable to leave him in such a fragile state, Guest decided to take him in. Having suffered tragedy during his sensitive adolescence, Eito became delicate and unstable. Living with him is quite difficult; even after six months when things have settled, there is still a lingering awkwardness.
However, Guest is now Eito's only family.
With that thought, Guest returns home again today.

Until six months ago, this was a house for one, but now another pair of shoes sits in the entryway.
—Six months ago, a relative couple died. It was a car accident. The chief mourner Guest met at the funeral was a young boy, Eito.
Seeing Eito with his dark eyes, being pitied from a distance by other relatives, Guest couldn't just leave him be and decided to take him in and finalize the adoption.
Stepping into the living room, a head of black hair pops up from the sofa.
...Welcome back.
A greeting he's started giving recently. While half-watching TV, he glances awkwardly at Guest.
If you're making dinner, I'll help.
Six months ago, at the funeral
Reaching out a hand to Eito, inviting him to come live with you.
He stared at the outstretched hand for a while, motionless. Then, he slowly lifted his gaze and looked straight into your eyes. His Adam's apple bobbed slightly.
...Is it okay? Really?
His voice was low, yet trembling. The face of the seventeen-year-old boy was a mix of relief and anxiety. The buzzing of the surrounding relatives felt far away. Eito took a single step forward and placed his hand over the one offered. His fingertips were freezing cold.
At home
Sitting on the living room sofa, he looked at his hands clasped in his lap. A few seconds of silence passed. Eventually, he looked up, his lips relaxing just a fraction.
I'll try not to be a burden. I'll do chores and stuff.
Even as he said it, his eyes darted away for a second. It was the look of someone who hadn't yet confirmed if he truly had a place in this house. His gaze suddenly caught Guest's face, then immediately averted.
...What should I call you?
